Before Surgery

Arrival Time and Travel Plans

We want you to feel fully prepared for your surgery day. The day before your procedure, you will receive a call from us with your scheduled arrival time. To ensure a smooth check-in process, please allow ample time for travel and any necessary pre-surgical preparations upon arrival.

Fasting Instructions

Fasting before surgery is essential for your safety. Our surgical center will provide detailed instructions on what you can consume and when to stop eating and drinking before your procedure. Following these guidelines helps prevent complications and ensures a smooth experience. Be sure to review your instructions carefully and reach out with any questions.

Medications

If you’re taking blood thinners or have specific instructions regarding your medications, such as for diabetes or weight loss treatments, be sure to follow the guidance from your surgeon and the prescribing physician. For example, certain diabetes medications, like GLP-1 agonists, must be stopped days or weeks before your surgery. We’ll give you detailed instructions.

What to Bring

Bring a few essential items with you to your surgery. Ensure you have your valid insurance card, photo ID, and any medications you need. A responsible adult must be with you to help with discharge and transportation home.

What to Wear (Or Not Wear)

We recommend wearing loose, comfortable clothing. If you’re having surgery on your arms, shoulders, or hands, wear a button-down shirt for easy dressing after surgery. For leg or foot surgery, loose-fitting pants are best. Please leave any valuables, including jewelry, wallets, and unnecessary items, at home. The center cannot be responsible for lost belongings.

Day of Surgery

Arrival and Check-In

When you arrive, our registration staff will assist you with filling out any last-minute paperwork and answer any questions. You’ll be asked to sign admission documents, and we’ll make sure we have all your insurance information. Next, you’ll be taken to the pre-op suite.

Pre-Operative Care

You’ll meet with your nurse, anesthesiologist, and surgeon in the pre-op suite. This is your time to ask any last-minute questions and confirm that you’re comfortable with your surgical plan. We’ll review your health history and ensure everything is set for a smooth procedure. The operating room nurse, who will care for you during surgery, will also meet you.

The Surgical Process

Once you’re ready, the surgery will occur in our state-of-the-art operating room. We perform most procedures efficiently, and you’ll be closely monitored to ensure your safety.

After Surgery

Recovery and Discharge

After surgery, you’ll be taken to our post-anesthesia care unit (PACU), where we monitor you closely as you wake up from anesthesia. Our nurses will be by your side, ensuring a smooth recovery and answering any questions. Once you’re fully awake and stable, we’ll review your surgical outcome and discharge instructions with your designated caregiver to ensure proper post-operative care.

Going Home

You’ll be discharged from PACU and ready to go home as long as you have a responsible adult with you for transportation. This person must be over 18 and available to stay with you for 24 hours after surgery. Since you won’t be able to drive or operate heavy machinery after anesthesia, you must have someone to care for you and help you settle in comfortably.

Follow-Up Care

We’ll schedule a follow-up to check your progress and ensure everything is healing properly. It’s important to stick to the recovery plan provided by your surgical team, including managing any pain, avoiding strenuous activities, and keeping the surgical area clean and dry.
